"What-if" notes

Have you heard about End-of-life planning, Shuukatsu 終活 in Japanese?

It refers to activities, while still healthy, to prepare for the last day.

Some might say I am still young and health.  Isn't it too early to plan for my death and funeral?

No.

Nobody can predict when the day will come.

End-of-life planning helps you not only prepare for the last day or after death, but also live each day meaningfully.  It would also serve a very helpful guide for your beloved families to proceed with various decisions and procedures in case of your death.

Government, local government, and many private organizations offer free "Ending notebook エンディングノート" booklets or forms.

Some of them are downloadable from the internet.

For example, this is by Ministry of Justice.

https://www.moj.go.jp/content/001395858.pdf

You can also get copies at your local Community Support Center, etc.  Please check with the city office in your area.

Do an internet search with a keyword such as "エンディングノート(ending note) name of your town/city."

For example "ending note Yokohama."

Please note ending notebooks have no legal effects. If you want to create something with legal effect, you must write a will.

But Ending notebooks surely help you and your beloved families.

In Ending notebooks, you record your personal information, your end-of-life care/medical preferences, your families, your friends, your favorites and hobbies, what you value, your financial information for inheritance, etc.

I don't think, however, it very recommendable to carry on your mobiles because your personal infomation could be leaked if you lose your mobile or it gets stolen.  I don't think it very nice either to leave your Ending notebook at home because nobody might find it when necessary, for example, in emergencies.

So, I have made "What-if notes."

Its main purpose is to give medical teams (mos likely emergency medical teams) your basic information when you get seriously sick or you get hurt badly in accidents or disasters.

Enter information on PDF form (2 pages), print it double-sided, and fold it and carry it in your wallet. Update it as necessary.
